Regional ACE Collaborative Microgrant Program

Northern Region RAC

  • What is the RAC?

The purpose of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Microgrant Program is to create an opportunity for community generated ideas to provide services to address ACES. These grants are designed to provide funding and support to New Jersey communities that are most directly impacted.

The ACE Microgrant program is funded by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) and administered the Office of Resilience in partnership with the Regional ACEs Collaboratives (RAC). These microgrants will highlight how we all can play a part to reduce the effects of childhood adversity, through actions both large and small that demonstrate compassion and promote a sense of emotional safety.

  • What are Adverse Childhood Experiences?

“Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) are related to short and long term negative physical and mental health consequences among children and adults. Studies of the last three decades on ACEs and traumatic stress have emphasized their impact and the importance of preventing and addressing trauma across all service systems utilizing universal systemic approaches.” (Oral et al., 2016).

Phase 4: State level reviews of application and award determination

Address ACEs to improve the health and wellbeing of children, families and their communities through one of the three levels of response.

These three levels of response allow us to view the challenges faced by the communities we serve with compassion, humility and a strengths-based perspective that sees people as people. This is the “trauma-informed lens” that helps us say “what’s strong with you?” instead of “what’s wrong with you?”

What level of response is your project or program idea?

I. Primary Prevention

Prevents the occurrence of adverse childhood events so that fewer children experience ACEs.

II. Secondary Prevention

Reduces the severity and acute consequences of the child’s adverse experience, thereby reducing the incidence of adverse outcomes associated with ACEs.

III. Tertiary Prevention

Treats and reduces the long term consequences of ACEs.
